Wednesday, April 29th Hidden Beneath

Under the bark of this old tree, grew a twisty vine.

It started at the bottom and grew up to the top, only to be revealed when the tree died and shed its bark.

Wednesday, April 15th Last Day to Boil

Syrup Skimmer

It was a very successful year for syrup making.  Don and Pat managed to squeeze over 90 gallons of syrup out of the maple tree sap.  And not only that, it's really great syrup.  These pictures are a few taken in the sugar house during the last days of boiling for 2015.  I think we can call it a Vintage year!
Measuring the sugar content

From concentrate on the left, to syrup on the right, the sap is heated and transformed into really sweet stuff.

Keep the fire burning consistently hot is important.

I know how to spend the first day of April......settled into a comfy chair in front of the picture window, overlooking the ocean, reading a good book and napping.
